Injectables & Fillers
The field of injectables represents some of the most highly visible cosmetic treatments today. The options include many different products with a host of different uses.
Broadly speaking, injectable treatment can be broken down into two categories: wrinkle relaxers and dermal fillers.
BOTOX® Cosmetic
The most recognizable wrinkle relaxer in the world, BOTOX® Cosmetic limits the muscle activity in the face that causes lines and creases to form. BOTOX® Cosmetic injections can be performed in many different areas of the face, including:
- The corners of the eyes to address crow’s feet
- The skin in between the eyebrows to address frown lines, a.k.a. “11’s”
- The forehead to address forehead lines
- The nose to address creases in the nose, or “bunny lines”
- The lips and mouth to address smoker’s lines and marionette lines
Although Dr. Leedy performs some cosmetic injections, BOTOX® Cosmetic is usually administered by our clinical injector. Our mission is personalizing treatment to enhance your particular features, rather than adopting a “one-size-fits-all” approach.
Dysport®
Dysport is a neuromodulator similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic. This injectable also interrupts the signals between nerves in the face, thus giving the skin a chance to relax.
BOTOX® Cosmetic tends to be the more versatile treatment, with applications for various areas of the face. Dosages for Dysport injections, however, tend to be higher, making Dysport more effective in the treatment of select problem areas like the glabella (the portion of the forehead around and in between the eyebrows).
Juvéderm®
When it comes to dermal fillers, one of the products you’ll hear about the most is Juvederm. Filler treatment involves injection of a synthetic gel beneath the skin. This gel (which is biocompatible and therefore safe for most patients) restores volume to areas in and around the injection site.
Juvederm comes in several different formulations. Depending on the formulation, Juvederm injections can improve the following areas:
- Cheeks
- Skin around the nose and mouth (address smile lines, nasolabial folds, and more)
- Lips
Dr. Leedy will discuss your options for Juvederm treatment. We will help you find the ideal solution for enhancing your face.
Restylane®
Like Juvederm, Restylane comes in a “collection” of several different injectables. The following areas are suitable for treatment with Restylane:
- Forehead
- Cheeks
- Lips
- Chin
One formulation at Cleveland Plastic Surgery Institute is Restylane Lyft (formerly Perlane). This filler is intended for cheek enhancement and hand rejuvenation.
Radiesse®
Radiesse also restores volume while boosting your body’s creation of collagen. Collagen is a natural substance that is plentiful when you’re young. It makes your skin supple and bright. As you get older, though, collagen becomes scarcer.
Radiesse is approved by the FDA for filler augmentation of the face and hands.
Belotero
Injections of Belotero (more properly, BELOTERO BALANCE) are an effective filler option for several different portions of the lower face, including:
- The nasolabial folds, or the lines that form diagonally from the nose to the mouth.
- Vertical lip lines
- Lines that form around the corners of the mouth
- Smile lines
- Wrinkles on the chin
The results of Belotero Balance look and feel natural. The filler material integrates with skin tissue to achieve lifelike enhancement.
Sculptra
Similar to Radiesse, Sculptra boosts the production of collagen. The filler adds volume and restores youthfulness to the face, addressing common concerns such as:
- Smile lines
- Marionette lines
- Wrinkles in the chin
The results of Sculptra are long lasting, with some patients enjoying facial rejuvenation for more than 2 years after treatment.
Facial Fat Transfer
Another injectable filler option uses your own fat, rather than an artificial material, to add volume to areas of your face. Dr. Leedy will perform liposuction in a place on your body with spare fat deposits. After harvesting the fat, it is purified and then injected at strategic points.
One of the key benefits of fat grafting and transfer is natural results. Treatment uses your own tissue, and Dr. Leedy has the experience to shape the transferred fat so it lifts and revitalizes your face.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
The skin is a complex organ. Although lines and wrinkles are a common complaint with age, environment and lifestyle are both key contributors to the appearance of your skin – often starting at a young age.
Laser skin resurfacing with the Clear + Brilliant laser is an effective solution whether you are seeking anti-aging, treatment for and prevention of skin issues, or both.
Clear + Brilliant is a fractional laser treatment. The technology is similar to the world-famous Fraxel laser (indeed, Clear + Brilliant and Fraxel were both developed by Solta Medical), but the laser wavelength with Clear + Brilliant doesn’t penetrate layers of the skin as deeply as Fraxel does.
As a result, treatment with Clear + Brilliant is gentle while still delivering exceptional results for patients with issues such as:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Enlarged pores
- Sun-damaged skin
- Hyperpigmentation
- Melasma
- Roughness of the skin
- Acne scars
Many younger patients gravitate toward Clear + Brilliant because the sessions are short (you’ll still have time for lunch after the appointment), there is no downtime, and starting treatment at an early age can reduce the appearance of cosmetic issues later in life.
Skin Tightening
In the event that you already notice droopy, sagging skin, Thermage skin tightening may be a more appropriate treatment option. Instead of a laser light, a member of our team positions a radio frequency (RF) device over your skin. RF energy helps to remodel tissue beneath the skin by activating collagen growth.
Thermage is an effective skin tightening option for several different areas:
- The face, including the mouth, chin, and jaw line
- The forehead and around the eyes
- The abdomen and other areas of the body
- The legs
Treatment sessions with Thermage can take as little as a half hour. Results are long-lasting, and you can return to regular activities almost immediately.
Microneedling
During microneedling treatment, we will apply a special roller to your skin. This roller is covered in tiny needles that puncture the skin at depths of up to a couple of millimeters. These small punctures rejuvenate the skin, which results in:
- Plumping of the skin
- Smoother skin texture
- Reduction of wrinkles and lines
- Scar reduction
- Hair growth; treatment also stimulates follicles
Our team may recommend complementary or alternative treatments to enhance the results of microneedling. For example, dermabrasion may be an option if you’re just looking for superficial skin resurfacing. Premium skincare products are an effective accompaniment to either of these procedures, as well as for everyday use.
Chemical Peels
Facials are a staple at day spas and cosmetic centers. Chemical peels take the treatment protocol a step further. Instead of simply addressing the surface layer of skin, chemical peels provide more aggressive rejuvenation.
Before the procedure, we will evaluate your skin health and complexion. She will provide recommendations on the chemical solution that will provide you the best results and optimal comfort.
Chemical facial peels can address a wide variety of issues, including:
- Sun exposure
- Sagging skin
- Lines, wrinkles, and folds
- Skin tone unevenness
- Rough skin texture
- Acne
- Acne scarring
Our VECTRA 3D imaging device can model the impact of different skin care treatments. This advanced technology can help you make informed decisions about your care.
HydraFacial
Only HydraFacial uses patented technology to cleanse, extract, and hydrate. HydraFacial super serums are made with nourishing ingredients that create an instantly gratifying glow in just 3 steps!
Scar Revision
Oftentimes, scars are more than just unsightly – they may be an unpleasant reminder of a painful experience. Some scars are treatable through non-invasive or minimally invasive means, including:
- Certain dermal fillers
- Laser skin resurfacing
- Chemical peels
- Dermabrasion
Deep scarring may require surgery to correct. Dr. Leedy has extensive experience with advanced reconstructive procedures of the face, hands, and other areas of the body.
CoolSculpting
In addition to the surgical solutions above, Dr. Leedy also performs non-surgical body contouring with the popular CoolSculpting system.
Thermage
In addition to the surgical solutions above, Dr. Leedy also performs non-surgical body contouring with the popular CoolSculpting system.
